Moisturizing is the act of coating your skin with a moisture barrier and hydration is the act of attracting and filling cells with water. The more hydrated your skin is, the happier it is.
Hydration makes all the difference when it comes to healthy and glowing skin. Hydration is like a glass of water for your skin. But it doesn’t matter how many glasses of water your skin drinks every day. If there’s nothing keeping this water in, it will evaporate into thin air, leaving your skin dry and dehydrated.
Moisturizing is about locking that moisture behind bars and making it stay there. It is usually oils that do this. If you are prone to breakouts, you want to go for non-comedogenic oils (non-clogging oils). Oils such as hempseed, jojoba, rosehip, grapeseed, shea butter, kalahari melon seed, maracuja, argan are non-comedogenic oils.
There are other means to maintain moisture in your skin and it is through a humectant. A humectant describes an ingredient that attracts moisture from the environment into the skin e.g. glycerine and hyaluronic acid. These help skin hold and regulate moisture in the cells which are key to smooth, flawless and hydrated skin.
Now, is your skin dry or dehydrated?
Dry and dehydrated skin tends to feel the same- just simply dry but there’s a difference between the two.
To prevent dry and dehydrated skin, avoid alcohol and caffeine, eat hydrating foods and stay away from harsh, alcohol-based skin products, refrain from bathing with extremely hot water and always tone and moisturize your skin after cleansing.
We are gunning for happier, healthier and beautiful skin.
