Oil and Butter Your Way to Beautiful, Healthy Skin and Hair

We are gunning for happier skin and hair so what better way is there than to oil and butter your way there.

Taking care of your skin and hair can at times be a mission and weather changes do not make this task any easier. Hot and sunny weathers, for instance, can leave your skin and hair dehydrated and damaged than ever hence remaining hydrated and retaining that skin and hair moisture is an all-year-round priority.

Oils and butters are great for moisturizing and sealing in moisture. They give the right nourishment to our skin and hair. Furthermore, they protect the skin from discolouration and sun damage (especially shea butter and coconut), they improve cell turnover and boost collagen and elastin production. Butters like shea, cocoa and coconut tend to be denser than lotions or oils which make them more easily and deeply absorbed into the skin. These delicious butters are of a much thicker consistency and melt upon contact, and applying them after a bath or shower makes it absorb into the skin faster and help treat skin damage such as chapping and inflammation.

Shea butter has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This butter smoothes and hydrates dry, rough skin and hair. It also prevents moisture loss by forming a protective layer/barrier without cogging your pores. Shea butter has a natural SPF of 6.

Coconut oil also contains a good amount of antioxidants with anti-inflammatoy, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It cleanses and lubricates, nourishes and deeply moisturize skin and hair. It has a natural SPF of 4, which blocks 75% off UV radiation. 75% protection is about 45 minutes of sun exposure.

Macadamia nut oil is packed with omega-7 fatty acids making it highly hydrating and moisturizing. It as anti-aging, healing and rejuvinating properties with some barrier protective properties. This oil is soothing and great for senstive skin.

Cocoa butter contains significant amounts of antioxidants. It is highly hydrating and moisturizing and at the same time great for holding and sealing in moisture. Cocoa butter soothes burns and rashes.

Using Oils in conjunction with butters for natural hair breeds the best results – protecting hair from split ends and keeping it hydrated, healthy and moisturized. Oils are the most emollient, meaning they soften and nourish the skin and butters are most occlusive, meaning they provide the strongest possible protective barrier to seal and lock in moisture. Using both oils and butters will ensure your skin and hair remains healthy and strong.
